A Front Helper in a Meat Mart (or Meat Clerk) handles the sales floor. They are responsible for greeting customers, packaging and pricing cuts of meat, keeping display cases stocked, and maintaining strict sanitation standards in the display and checkout areas.
Important duties include:
Breaking down large cuts of meat Weighing out final portions Packaging products for sale Using equipment such as slicers, scales, knives and grinders Curing meat and making sausages Fulfilling custom orders, such as cutting meat to customer specifications Sanitizing all surfaces and equipment
Proficiency in using various knives and cutting tools to butcher and prepare meat An understanding of different cuts of meat and how to prepare them The ability to cut meat into specified portions accurately Ensuring the meat is fresh, properly stored and handled according to food safety standards Strong communication skills to interact with customers, take orders and provide recommendations Knowledge of and adherence to safety practices to prevent injuries and maintain a clean workspace
